THE WHITE ALBUM CONCERT Shows Announced for Canberra & Wollongong, July 13-26 - Monday, May 19, 2014

With seven shows around the country already announced and selling fast, two new cities have been added to the White Album Concert National Tour, with performances in Canberra on 22 July and in Wollongong on 23 July.

The White Album Concerts feature four of Australia's greatest rock'n'roll showmen - Chris Cheney, The Living End, Phil Jamieson of Grinspoon, Tim Rogers from You Am I and ARIA award winner singer/songwriter Josh Pyke performing the entire album with an all-star 17 piece rock orchestra. The Beatles' most challenging and stylistically varied collection of songs has been taken apart and reassembled track by track by four singers at the peak of their powers. Coming after India, but before the split, The White Album was the sound of John, Paul, George and Ringo throwing everything they'd learned into their musical blender. This major work bursts with variety, creativity, experimentation, and the genius of The Beatles during one of their most intense, fertile, periods. It is a timeless album, yet very much of its time. Its 30 songs veer from the populist stomp of Back in the USSR and the mind-bending Happiness is a Warm Gun to the melodious sorrow of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, the ska pop fun of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, and the hard rock prototype Helter Skelter.

17 Shocking Facts About The Beatles

None of The Beatles Could Read Music

The Beatles are talked about as one of the best bands of all times but surprisingly none of The Beatles could even read music! Although they could play the guitar, and wrote their own lyrics, they never learned how to read music.

They did know the chords and knew where middle C was on a piano. In a 1980 interview with Playboy, John Lennon said: “I think Paul and Ringo stand up with any of the rock musicians. Not technically great — none of us are technical musicians. None of us could read music. None of us can write it. But as pure musicians, as inspired humans to make the noise, they are as good as anybody”

Paul is the only one of The Beatles who attempted to learn how to read music.  He tried to take piano lessons from his girlfriend’s mother but did not have the time or the patience.  None of the others even tried.
