John Lennon does not need any definition: Eric Clapton
- Sunday, May 26, 2013

Eric Clapton - the musician, a living icon, talked about his music, his memories of John Lennon, his influences and a lot more in candid chat with TOI. Excerpts:

What inspired you creatively to cut this new album?
I think when I was making this album I wanted to have everything that belonged to an era when I was a kid, until now. I wanted to get the memories back through the songs. Moreover I wanted this album to have songs dedicated to my family. So all these thoughts actually led to the way this album was cut out and nothing related to any specific creative planning.

John Lennon's gypsy caravan rediscovered in Ascot house
- Thursday, May 23, 2013

A KEY piece of Beatles memorabilia has been discovered in the garage of an Ascot house.

John Lennon's 1967 Sgt Pepper's Gypsy Caravan has been hidden from public view for more than 40 years.

But the Ascot News can exclusively reveal that the remains of the legendary caravan - which was bought by Lennon in 1967 for his then, four year-old son Julian's birthday - has been acquired by Alan Carr, a well-known Ascotresident and charity fundraiser.

John Lennon and son's double-fantasy trip

Memphians recall Beatles legend McCartney as he returns to the Bluff City
- Saturday, May 25, 2013

When Paul McCartney returns to Memphis this weekend to perform at FedEx Forum, the crowd will be considerably older, the females less frenzied than the first time he played here 47 years ago as a member of the Beatles. Although Sunday’s stop on McCartney’s “Out There” tour marks only his second Bluff City concert (he also played solo in 1993 at the Liberty Bowl), everyone in town, it seems, has a story to tell about the legendary musician.

Did you know?

At the end of Strawberry Fields Forever, Lennon is heard mumbling what sounds like "I buried Paul", which helped fuel the 'Paul is Dead' rumours. He's actually saying "cranberry sauce".

The only Beatles single to ever feature another musician on the credit is Get Back/Don't Let Me Down (credited to The Beatles with Billy Preston). Preston, recruited by George Harrison to ease the growing tensions in the band, played the Hammond organ on both songs.

Two days after Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band released, Jimi Hendrix opened his set at London's Saville Theatre with the title track, something McCartney considers his "single biggest tribute".

The final version of Strawberry Fields Forever was created combining two takes of the song in two different keys and speeds - a remarkable achievement considering the equipment and technology of the time - but still failed to fully satisfy Lennon.

The only Beatles track to be credited to Lennon and Harrison is an early instrumental called Cry for a Shadow recorded in 1961 when the band was backing Tony Sheridan. Flying and Dig It are the only two tracks to be credited to all four Beatles.
