L.A. Film Critics Assn. to honor director Richard Lester

The Los Angeles Film Critics Assn. announced Saturday afternoon that director Richard Lester, who helmed the influential classic Beatles' film musicals, 1964's "A Hard Day's Night" and 1965's "Help!," is the recipient of the organization's career achievement honor.
The honor will be presented at the L.A. Film Critics Assn. awards ceremony Jan. 11 at theIntercontinental Hotel in Century City. Previous honorees include directors Paul Mazursky and Frederick Wiseman and actors Doris Day and Jean-Paul Belmondo. A child prodigy, the 81-year-old Lester began studying at the University of Pennsylvania at the age of 15. He started working in TV about 1950 and moved to London in 1953, where he worked as a director in indie TV. His 1960 short "The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film," which he made with "Goon Show" starsPeter Sellers and Spike Milligan earned an Oscar nomination. The Beatles loved the Goons and the short film, and he proved to be a perfect fit for the group's first film, "A Hard Day's Night."

John Lennon's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which was desecrated by vandals over the weekend with writing and drawings, is back to its original state Oct. 7 after workers, first from Capitol Records, then the Walk of Fame, feverishly removed the damage on Monday.

Elton John has discussed his former drug use, revealed how he once hid from legendary artist Andy Warhol during a cocaine binge with Beatles icon, John Lennon. The 'Rocket Man' star has spoken openly during his career about his former addiction problems, but has now revealed how Lennon's paranoia led the duo to ignore Warhol when he turned up at a hotel room in which the two were partying.

The Beatles at Shea Stadium
The Beatles at Shea Stadium is a fifty-minute-long documentary of The Beatles' August 15, 1965, concert at Shea Stadium in New York City, the highlight of the group's 1965 tour. The documentary was produced by Ed Sullivan (under his Sullivan Productions, Inc. banner), NEMS Enterprises Ltd. (which owns the 1965 copyright), and the Beatles company Subafilms Ltd. The project, placed under the direction of manager of production operations M. Clay Adams, was filmed by a large crew led by cinematographer Andrew Laszlo, used fourteen cameras to capture the euphoria and mass hysteria that was Beatlemania in America in 1965. The documentary first aired on the BBC on May 1, 1966.[1] However other sources place first transmission on the BBC as being March 1, 1966.[2][3] In West Germany, it aired on August 2, 1966.[1] It aired in the United States on ABC on January 10, 1967.[1]

Another bill-topping appearance on ABC Television's "Thank Your Lucky Stars", taped during the afternoon and transmitted 5:50-6:35 pm on Saturday, October 26th.
In this edition they mimed to an unprecedented three numbers, one more than usual, two more than most other acts, - "All My Loving", "Money (That's What I Want)" and "She Loves You". The first two formed an exclusive glimpse of "With The Beatles", not issued until November 22nd. TYLS producer Philip Jones had acquired advanced acetate pressings of some of the album tracks and persuaded Brian Epstein to allow him first opportunity to plug them.
