Never-before-seen photographs of celebrities captured in informal moments by the artist Andy Warhol are to be sold. The American pop artist used photography as a medium of art towards the end of his career and had a tendency to snap spontaneous moments.

Sid Bernstein: Concert impresario launched Beatles'
invasion of America

Sid Bernstein made musical history in 1964 when he took an unknown British pop group – the Beatles – to America and started the "British Invasion" there. He booked the Beatles to play at Carnegie Hall and later arranged their famous shows at the Shea Stadium – the first major rock stadium acts – and presented the first US appearances of the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Dave Clark Five, the Moody Blues and the Animals.

Movie Facts:
In late 1966, John Lennon took time off to play a supporting character, Gripweed, in a film called How I Won the War, also directed by Lester. It was a satire of World War II films, and its dry, ironic British humour was not well received by American audiences. He would later produce avant-garde films with his second wife Yoko Ono, such as Rape which was produced for the Austrian television network ORF.

The Beatles 50 Years Ago Today : Sunday, September 1, 1963
A Sunday TV taping for ABC Television, but not this time for "Thank your lucky stars" - this appearance was on the variety show "Big Night Out", hosted by Mike and Bernie Winters. (It was the first of four Beatles TV engagements with the comedian brothers)
Fellow guests in this edition included Billy Dainty, Patsy Ann Noble and Lionel Blair. Following daytime rehearsals, the show was taped during the evening on the main stage at ABC's Manchester Studio, before an audience of 600, the Beatles miming to three songs "From me to you", "She loves you", and "Twist and Shout". It was transmitted across most of the ITV network, 7:40 to 8:30 pm. on Saturday, September 7th.
Note: The Beatles had originally been requested to tape their "Big Night Out" debut on Sunday, August 18th, for Saturday, August 24th transmission, but their diary could not accommodate this.
