Yellow Dubmarine to brings reggae Beatles tribute to Avalon
- Monday, May 26, 2014

EASTON — Do you have the feeling that you want to be at the beach this weekend but will end up relaxing in Easton instead? Ever wonder what Beatlemania might have sounded like with Bob Marley as the fifth Beatle? You’ll get an idea when Yellow Dubmarine, the tribute band that interprets Fab Four classic hits with a Jamaican irie vibe performs at 8 p.m.

Saturday, May 24, at the Avalon Theatre. “We’ve had lots of great Beatles tributes play here, but Yellow Dub is definitely the most unique and the most fun so far,” said Suzy Moore, Avalon house manager. “They’ll play all the Beatles’ No. 1 hits with a bouncy reggae groove and brassy, ska-like horns. Their performances are so high-energy, it’s hard for the audience to remain in their seats, so the Avalon’s dance floor will be open. ... It’s got a great summertime beach vibe to it.” Yellow Dubmarine got the attention of reggae and the Beatles fans in 2011 while touring to promote its first album, “Abbey Dub,” a dubbed-out re-interpretation of the Beatles’ album “Abbey Road.” This time around, the group will perform the Beatles’ hits from 1962 through 1970 layered in deep reggae rhythms.

17 Shocking Facts About The Beatles

Two Beatles were kicked out of Germany for burning condoms!

Pete Best, former drummer for The Beatles, and Paul McCartney were deported from Germany for arson. They set condoms on fire! They burned the condoms as a source of light within their van and were then suspected for arson from the German authorities.

They were charged with trying to burn their van down. For the record, the condoms were unused.

The Beatles Song Quote of the week

I'm sorry that I doubted you, I was so unfair. You were in a car crash, and you lost your hair.

The Beatles 50 Years Ago Today :

The Beatles 50 Years Ago Today : June 1, 1964 (Monday)

Studio Two, EMI Studios, London

The film completed, and holidays taken, the Beatles returned to EMI Studios for three days to record the non-soundtrack side of the LP A Hard Day's Night, any surplus songs being set aside for an EP, Long Tall Sally, with that title song and "I Call Your Name" already in the can.

They worked this day fro 2:30 to 7:15 and 8:00-11:15 pm first recording five takes of "Matchbox" (released on the EP) and then tackling "I'll Cry Instead" (the LP), taped in two sections with six takes of the first and two of the second recorded for later editing, six takes  of "Slow Down" (for the EP) and 16 of "I'll Be Back" (LP)

Visiting the afternoon session, and watching the Beatles record a cover of "Matchbox", his original recording, was Carl Perkins, one of the biggest influences on the group, who was over from America on a promoted tour.
